Overview

Male and female F344/crl rats were exposed via inhalation to alpha [plutonium-238 ( 238Pu )] or beta [yttrium-90 ( 90Y ), promethium-147 ( 147Pm ), or strontium-90 ( 90Sr )] emitting radionuclides or specific combinations (plutonium-238 + 147Pm; 90Y + 90Sr) in insoluble fused aluminosilicate particles (FAP). Databases for evaluating morbidity and mortality to 1.5 years after inhalation exposure are provided. Both deterministic and stochastic biological effects were recorded. This website provides the dosimetric and biological effects data obtained. The data were taken from the following reports and can be used in developing models for application to radiological terrorism risk assessment:

 Databases for Beta-emitting Radionuclides
      Morbidity:
Pulmonary function measurements data for rats exposed to aerosols of 90Sr-FAP
            (Tables 5A through 5K; report NUREG/CR-5025)
Pulmonary function measurements data for rats exposed to aerosols of 90Y-FAP
            (Table 6; report NUREG/CR-5025)
      Mortality:
Rats exposed to aerosols of 147Pm-FAP
            (Tables 1A through 1F; report NUREG/CR-5025)
Rats exposed to aerosols of 90Sr-FAP
            (Tables 2A through 2F; report NUREG/CR-5025)
Rats exposed to aerosols of 90Y-FAP
            (Tables 3A through 3E; report NUREG/CR-5025)
Rats exposed to aerosols of 90Y-FAP and 90Sr-FAP
            (Tables 4A through 4F; report NUREG/CR-5025)

Databases for Alpha + Beta-emitting Radionuclides
      Morbidity:
Pulmonary function measurements data for rats exposed to aerosols of 238Pu-FAP, 147Pm-FAP, or 238Pu + 147Pm-FAP
            (Tables 2A and 2B; report NUREG/CR-5067)
      Mortality:
       Rats exposed to aerosols of 238Pu-FAP, 147Pm-FAP, or 238Pu + 147Pm-FAP
            (Tables 1A through 1I; NUREG/CR-5067)
