Plutonium Intake Distributions

This section provides links to data based on simulations using Crystal Ball to analyze distributions of activity (in Bq) in the respiratory tract assuming deposition rates of 1, 10, and 100 particles for the population of all adult males engaged in light exercise. The data are based on simulations assuming certain parametric models, which are based on past biological and epidemiological studies, and are by no means real data from a sample of the population. This model is essentially derived in Bolch's paper, Influences of Paramete Uncertainty Within the ICRP 66 Respiratory Tract Model: Particle Deposition, and the extensions discussed in our paper, Modelling Variability and Uncertainty Associated with Inhaled Weapons-Grade PuO2.

All calcuations were carried out for PuO2 particles where the particle size is lognormally distributed with a geometric mean of 5 microns and a geometric standard deviation of 2.5 microns, a density of 10 g/cm3, and a shape factor of 1.5.

1, 10, and 100 Particle Deposition Data is based on simulations analyzing distributions of activity assuming depostion of 1, 10, and 100 particles.
Single Particle Deposit Per Region Data is based on simulations analyzing distributions of activity in each primary region of the respiratory tract (ET1, ET2, BB, bb, AI) assuming depostion of a single particle.
10 Particle Deposition Per Region Data is based on simulations analyzing distributions of activity in each primary region of the respiratory tract (ET1, ET2, BB, bb, AI) assuming depostion of 10 particles. These results are based on convolutions of single particle associated radioactivity intake distributions.
100 Particle Deposition Per Region Data is based on simulations analyzing distributions of activity in each primary region of the respiratory tract (ET1, ET2, BB, bb, AI) assuming depostion of 100 particles. These results are based on convolutions of results for 10 particles.
